Almond milk cappuccino

I welcome you back to another coffee recipe article. This time we will see how to prepare one of my great favorites, an almond milk cappuccino, and the best of all is that we will make it at home, without a machine, just with a French Press.

In some parts of the world, vegetable milk is super common and can be found in any supermarket. There are countries where it is sometimes difficult to find; if this is your case, I also show you how to prepare almond milk at home below.

The French Press is an ideal coffee maker to get into the world of coffee; it is cheap and practical to have at home. As it is very versatile, you can do many things with it, such as incredible coffee, tea, various infusions, Cold Brew, or froth milk.

And while I always recommend the Aeropress or the Moka pot to prepare an espresso since they produce a more intense and full-bodied coffee, I have chosen the French press for this recipe today. With It, you can prepare everything, both the espresso and the milk froth, without needing a coffee maker.

Here I will give you the step by step instructions so that you can obtain a delicious almond cappuccino in a very simple way. You will find how to prepare the almond milk, and the coffee, how to froth the milk, and finally, how to integrate everything to get the perfect cappuccino.

Ingredients to prepare an almond cappuccino

The ingredients and quantities we are going to need to prepare two cappuccinos are:

  • 15 grams of good quality coffee, preferably espresso profiled, has a good body and sweet notes that combine well with the milk.
  • 100 grams of almonds to prepare half a liter of milk.
  • 3 dates, previously chopped, will give a little sweetness and flavor to the milk, which goes very well with the coffee.

Preparation of the almond milk

  1. To prepare the milk, let the almonds soak in filtered water at room temperature for 8 to 12 hours.
  2. After this time, we drain them well, removing all the soaking water.
  3. In a blender, place about 17 ounces of fresh filtered water.
  4. Add the soaked and drained almonds and also the dates. Cover and blend everything for two minutes.
  5. Now we are going to filter the milk; the ideal is to have one of those bags for vegetable milk that you can get in any health food store or with a cotton cloth like the ones used to make cheese: We proceed to drain the almonds, and so we have the milk ready.

Preparation of the almond milk cappuccino

  1. To prepare the coffee, we will use a medium grind, a little finer than what we generally use for the French Press, more as if it were for the Moka pot, with a texture similar to sugar.
  2. We will place the 15 grams of coffee in the French Press, approximately one and a half heaping tablespoons.
  3. We add 5 ounces of previously boiled filtered water. Here we are using a ratio of 1:10.
  4. With a spoon, we stir gently, ensuring that all the coffee is moistened, and we will let it rest for four minutes.
  5. After this time, we lower the plunger, and the coffee is ready.
  6. We serve the coffee in our cups. I used 6-ounce double-walled cups, which you can easily find in online stores, which is ideal for this cappuccino. In addition, they are thermal and maintain the temperature of the coffee while we froth the milk.

  1. Now we will take the milk to the microwave, and I recommend that you check it with a kitchen thermometer, so it does not boil. I recommend heating it to 158 degrees Fahrenheit, but you can also test it until it reaches your desired temperature.
  2. To froth the milk, the Bodum presses have a small disadvantage: the filter does not reach the bottom of the container, but for this, I have a little trick. We can unscrew the tip of the plunger to remove the lid; once off, we screw the plunger tip back on, and the frother is ready.
  3. To help you know how much to froth the milk, you can mark with tape the initial volume, and we will raise and lower the plunger constantly until reaching 50% of this volume.

  1. To achieve good latte art is ideal to have one of those little pitchers that allow you to find the movements and the flow of the pouring; here I leave you the article where he taught the step-by-step instructions of how to make good latte art. But if you do not have one of those pitchers, you can pour directly from the press pitcher, although it will not be as nice.
  2. And so we have our delicious almond cappuccinos, which are also a good option, healthier and more conscious.

Note: If you want to make a single cappuccino, reduce the ingredients by half; the rest of the procedure is the same.
